Mihirung - the giant demon-duck

The next of my Australian cryptid and prehistoric creatures is the Dromornis, or Mihirung (after Mihirung paringmal, "giant bird" in the language of the Tjapwuring people of central Victoria).

This bird may be the largest bird that has ever lived on Earth. There are stat blocks below for both 5e and 5.5e.

The Mihirung is an enormous flightless bird standing over 3m (10') tall and weighing in excess of 500kg (1,100lb).

Related more closely to ducks and other waterfowl than the other flightless birds it resembles, some also refer to it as the "demon-duck".

Travelling in small flocks or family groups, the mihirung will vigourously protect chicks.

Their diet consists of both plant material and small animals.

Despite their enormous size, a mihirung is capable of rapid movement thanks to their powerful leg musculature.
